6 Top Needle Felting Tips for Beginners (What I Wish I Knew Starting Out)
When you’re new to needle felting, most advice focuses on tools and supplies, and very rarely technique, when in reality using the correct technique will further your progress even more than using a fancy more expensive needle. So I thought I would compile a list on the 6 top, most important needle felting tips for beginners.
These needle felting tips for beginners are the things many people wish they’d known earlier.

1. Start Smaller Than You Think
Most beginners start with projects that are too big. Smaller projects are easier to control and finish. I have made a list of simple projects to start your needle felting journey with.
2. Rotate Constantly
Felting only one side leads to uneven shapes and weak spots.
Rotating your project frequently creates a more solid result.
3. Use Fewer Colours at First
Too many colours can hide mistakes and make shaping harder.
Stick to one or two colours until you’re confident.
4. Felt Longer Than Feels Necessary
If you’re unsure whether a piece is finished, it probably needs more felting.

5. Add Details Last
Details should only be added once the base is completely firm.
This prevents pieces from falling off later.
6. Accept Imperfection
No beginner project looks perfect, and to be fair even experienced projects don’t look perfect but every piece teaches you something new.
Final Thoughts
Needle felting improves quickly with practice. These 6 beginner tips are tips I wish I knew when I was starting out my needle felting journey.
