What you need
- Candles
- Acrylic Paints
- Brushes
- Candle Holder (optional)
Step 1: Decide on your patterns and designs
You will want to keep the designs and patterns simple and basic. While it seems easy to paint on candles it’s actually very difficult. I highly recommend painting your designs on paper first before you paint on your candles. Flowers, hearts, and colored blobs are very easy and satisfying designs and patterns you can try.

Step 2: Start Painting
Now is the time to place your candle in the candle holder if you have one. I found it much easier to paint the candle when it’s in the holder.
Paint one color at a time and let it dry before starting the next color so the colors don’t mix.
The designs will most likely need two coats, depending on how thick you paint it on in the first place.
Step 3: Let it Dry
And that’s it! Once you are happy with your design, let it dry and put it on display. I have seen people sell these at craft markets too. This is truly a fun DIY but it definitely is harder than it looks.
